- Form the habit of closing the door when leaving the house, and carry the keys even when dumping rubbish.
- When taking an elevator upstairs or downstairs, stand near the control buttons for quick reaction. When a stranger comes in, pay attention to his characteristics and the number of the floor on the button he pushes.
- If he pushes a button for the top floor, basement or a floor of empty rooms, please push the button for the nearest floor and walk out of the elevator quickly. Press the bell of the household on this floor and shout: “Ma, I’m home”.
- If the elevator door is not yet closed, exit the elevator immediately and wait for the next one.
- Please lock the doors and windows before you go outside. If there is a security system, activate it.
- When there is nobody at home, you may set the timer of the electric lamp and radio to pretend there is somebody in.
- Please notify police if you leave for a long vacation. The local police will provide extra patrol service.
- Do not allow strangers to enter your house. Verify the identity of the visitor before you open the door.
- Keep watch and help others in the neighborhood. If you see any suspicious people or vehicles , please inform the police and if possible, remember the vehicle license number. Please make good use of the local organization “Neighborhood Watch”.
- Please store valuable goods and large amounts of cash in banks. Store your valuable jewelry in a safe or in separate places, and make an inventory of them.
- Pay attention to any suspicious signals such as an “Ο”or “Ⅹ” or colors painted on the wall of your house .
- Before you arrive at your home, pay attention to whether you are followed by others. If you are followed by someone suspicious, do not enter your home immediately. You should ask for help from stores (e.g. a 24-hour supermarket) nearby and borrow a phone to contact a family member.
- When you stay home alone, do not answer the door, open the door, order take-out or ask for repair service unless it is necessary.
- Do not lend your phone to others. Tell him/her the phone is being used or there is no phone in your home. (You may lend him/her some coins and ask him/her to use a public telephone).
- Inspect the doors and windows frequently to verify if they are damaged.

- Have someone accompany you when visiting the house to be rented.
- If you need to visit a house alone, please arrange with your family or friends a time at which you will call them to confirm safety.
- When you visit a house alone, pay attention to the position of the entrance/exit and leave it open. Do not close the gate of the entrance/exit.
- Before you rent a house, pay close attention to the environment, security conditions of the block, the behavior of the previous renter and the conduct of the landlord.
